Welcome

Stevenson's Upper School is home to 520 students, both day and boarding, hailing from 20 states and 16 countries in grades 9-12. Half are day students from local communities (reaching from Carmel to Salinas to Santa Cruz), and half from throughout the United States and around the world.

We seek young men and women interested in studying with bright companions, learning from lively and demanding teachers, contributing to a community of independent-minded friends, and choosing activities—academic, artistic, athletic, recreational, service—that inspire their best and bring them joy.

On these pages you'll find all the information you need to learn about our Upper School.  In our Academic Departments, check out our course offerings and learn more about the dynamic and interesting teachers who will lead your classroom experience.  In our Arts and Athletics sections, learn about our extensive arts program and our 24 interscholastic sports as well as our non-competitive sports.  In Student Life, see if you can find clubs and activities which grab your attention. Meet our students up close and learn more about life as a resident student.  Finally, learn about our College Counseling program, one of the most comprehensive you'll find anywhere.With so much to choose from, sometimes the hardest part is deciding.

Our Mission

Stevenson, a selective school for college-bound boarding and day students, commits to three aims:

  • to prepare students for success in college and beyond;
  • to foster their passion for learning and achievement;
  • and to help them shape a joyful life.
Therefore, we maintain:

  • a faculty and staff of gifted, principled, attentive adults;
  • a lively curriculum - innovative in method, scholarly in content, and global in scope;
  • an exceptional range of academic, athletic, and artistic choices for students to explore, both independently and with friends;
  • a respectful, welcoming community, grounded in ethical and spiritual values;
  • and a serene, comfortable campus along the magnificent forested coastline of the Monterey Penninsula.
