Art

The art curriculum is a continuum – each newly acquired technique adds to and reinforces previously learned skills. The art class, taught in the art room, is a specialty class for all students in first through eighth grades. The goal of the art program is to develop the natural artistic talent of each student. Not only will students produce art work, but they will learn about art history and study various artists, which strengthens connections to their social studies and language arts curriculums. They will demonstrate an understanding of and an ability to recognize significant artists and their styles. Students will integrate the elements and principles of design through drawing, painting, printmaking, weaving, and sculpting, along with other mediums. Students are challenged with using problem solving skills, imagination, and creative thinking, critical and analytical skills. Students create and display original art work at the annual school Art Show.

Middle School students use their laptop computers to create computer graphic art pieces, as well to research and study various artists and art history throughout the year. Students also have the opportunity to help create set designs and programs for the school’s annual performances of the Nutcracker Ballet and Spring Musical.
