Dance
The dance curriculum requires students to perform more complex and demanding work as they progress through the grades. The dance class, taught in the dance studio, is specialty class for all students in ECC through eighth grade, where they are required to wear a dance uniform. Twice a week, each class participates in dance class. Each class consists of basic stretching, both on the floor and at the barre, and conditioning to strengthen the legs, the ankles, the feet, and the back. Girls will focus on classical ballet barre, and the boys work on character-folk barre. Center work consists of balancing combinations, jumping sequences, leaps and turns, and traveling steps. Students will continue to incorporate basic dance steps, jazz steps, and more advanced techniques are introduced as they progress through the grades. Students will learn French terminology related to dance. Hopefully their love of dance will grow as they get older. Lower School students perform the Nutcracker Ballet during December, while Middle School students perform a Spring Musical.
