ECC
Welcome to the Early Childhood Center, the "The Little Land." The ECC classroom is named after a poem, titled The Little Land, from Robert Louis Stevenson’s, A Child’s Garden of Verses.
"The Little Land" is a very busy place! The students start their day with circle time, where they learn about the weather and the calendar, practice math by counting to 100, and sing songs and dance to music. Students learn about interesting and exciting science topics, like the rain forest, insects, and butterflies. They love to write class books during language arts time, and create pictures for their stories during art time. Some of their favorite stories during reading are I Wanna Iguana, Don’t Let the Pigeon Ride the Bus, and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. In the afternoon, they explore their classroom centers and practice their computer skills. The class also takes fun field trips to learn more about the communities and neighborhoods they study during social studies, such as a fire station, a local lumber yard, and a local organic farm. Throughout the year, they perform special events for their parents, like "The Nursery Rhyme Olympics" and "The Three Little Pigs", and they also sing holiday songs at the Lower School’s Winter Performance. Students attend dance and physical education classes weekly.
We invite you to learn more about "The Little Land." We will send you an informational viewbook, as well as an application for admission to the Early Childhood Center (ECC). Children applying to the ECC must turn 5 years old by December 1 of their enrollment year. You many arrange a parent interview and tour, and a student school visit after you’ve completed and returned the formal application. In the application packet, you’ll find all of the information that you will need to complete the admission process. Of course, we’re always here to help if you need us.
