Technology
Stevenson School is committed to graduating students who possess the skills needed to succeed in an increasingly complex information society. Our vision is to graduate students who are comfortable and proficient with educational technology in all its forms and who possess the skills to interact with individuals or organizations through electronic media.
At the Lower School, the use of technology is intended to create a community of learning, to enhance learning throughout the curriculum, and to provide students with opportunities to use technology as a tool for learning. The use of technology motivates students and enhances their learning by providing them new methods of presentation and discovery. Technology is integrated across the curriculum in all grades. Students learn specific, grade-appropriate skills and learn to develop ethical values with regard to the use of technology.
Lower School students, in ECC through grade five, have daily access to desktop computers in their classrooms, which provide access to the Internet, Microsoft Office Suite, and educational games. Computer skills are integrated throughout the curriculum. Students use classroom computers to support and enhance topics studied throughout the year. Beginning in second grade, students learn keyboarding skills to help with proper finger placement, and typing speed and accuracy.
