Student Council
Stevenson Lower and Middle School Student Council exists for three purposes: to develop good communication within the school community, to offer a year long program of a wide variety of activities and community involvement, and to train students in the duties and responsibilities of good citizenship, using the school environment as the primary training ground. Student Council members are elected from and by the student body twice a year. Students interested in running for Student Council do so during “Campaign Week” and prepare speeches to deliver to their schoolmates on “Election Day.” Students in grades four through eight are allowed to run for Student Council offices.
Throughout the year, Student Council organizes several school-wide activities which promote school spirit and interaction among students, such as Middle School dances, Spirit Week, and special days like Pizza Day and Valentine’s Day Grams. In addition to these activities, Student Council member also organize community service projects, such as a canned-food drive at Thanksgiving, and a holiday adopt-a-family project. Student Council members support and participate in school-organized special events and traditions, where they take on leadership roles which help develop their public speaking and social interaction skills.
