Meet our Staff

College Center Staff for 2008-2009:

David Miller, Director of College Counseling

David augmented his undergraduate degree in English at Princeton with a Masters from Stanford. In his 23 year career in public schools David served as an English teacher and department chairman, head football coach, Directory of the Gifted and Talented Education Program, chairman of the Faculty Council and founder and head of a school within a school. Throughout that tenure he completed his work as Chairman of the local Princeton Alumni Schools Committee with personal college guidance of his own students and football players. He continues to teach one Junior Honors English course while focusing on his role as Director of College Counseling.

Frank Keith, Director Emeritus

Throughout Frank's more than 40 years at Stevenson, he has been assisting students in planning their educational future. A graduate of Carleton College and the University of Minnesota, he has participated in a broad range of summer college counseling programs and workshops throughout the United States. He has held leadership roles in the Western Association for College Admissions Counseling and has frequently given workshops on college counseling for the WACAC and its parent organization, the National Association for College Admissions Counseling. For 10 summers, he was an instructor for the Santa Clara Summer Counseling Institute. His teaching at Stevenson has ranged from economics and history to psychology. Over the years, Frank has routinely visited colleges and universities through the United States. He presently is Director Emeritus for College Counseling and Consultant for Advancement, Archivist and Historian at Stevenson.

Ron Hammond

Ron Hammond joined the Stevenson School faculty in the History and Dean of Students departments in 2004 after working in college students services for 22 years. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of New Hampshire he decided to take a year to take stock of a career path. He stumbled onto a job working in residence life at Plymouth (NH) State College where he earned a master's degree in Counseling. A commitment to working with students took hold and a PhD in Higher Education Administration from Boston College soon followed. After working throughout the northeast United States at public and private, large and small, Catholic, urban and rural schools, he moved to Pebble Beach for the best of reasons - he married a fellow teacher! In addition to working closely with college students for many years, Ron has just completed the college application process for the second time as a parent (first with son Pete, age 19 and now with Mollie, age 17.) Son Will is newly adopted from Vietnam and as a member of the Stevenson class of '24, has quite a while before SATs and FAFSAs.

Bill Hankison, Counselor

Like several of his colleagues, Bill moved from the midwest to the sunny climes of California after becoming enraptured with the Monterey Peninsula almost 40 years ago. After eight years at Thacher, where he taught English and served as Dean and Athletic Director, he was introduced to Stevenson by Wally Goodwin, Stevenson's Athletic Director for many years. Later, Bill arrived in Pebble Beach with his two older children who would later graduate from Stevenson. A graduate of Otterbein College in Ohio, Bill also attended Harvard and Stanford before he earned his Master's at Wesleyan. During his career at Stevenson, Bill completed his Master's degree and wrote numerous recommendations for seniors, as well as twice chairing the English department. He has coached four varsity sports, including 15 years as varsity basketball coach. Bill recently celebrated his twenty-fifth anniversary with his lovely wife Jayne, and his youngest daughter will graduated from Denver University. Bill continues to coach and is currently assisting the varsity golf team.

Susan Hendry, Counselor

Following her graduation from the University of Rhode Island, Susan began tutoring international students at Stevenson and, as a result, became interested in Asian culture. Consequently, she returned to graduate school to pursue a Master's degree in Chinese Studies. While at Dartmouth, she attended Beijing Shifan Daxue in the People's Republic of China, gaining a greater understanding of the difficulties international students encounter when taking classes in their second language. At Stevenson, Susan teaches English III and Senior Electives, including the Short Story and World Mythology.

Carolyn Kost, Counselor

Carolyn has attended or taught at eleven universities. She had a college consulting practice in Connecticut and is especially familiar with schools in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. She is particularly interested in promoting summer enrichment programs, which range from archaeological digs in Turkey to the National Youth Leadership Forum / Technology in San Jose, California. Carolyn is excited about her second year as part of the College Center team and hopes to work with many of the students she has come to know through her position as Head Librarian.

John Senuta, Counselor

Having grown up in San Francisco, John Senuta attended U.C. Berkeley where he earned a varsity letter in football as the team manager. He began his teaching career at Albany High School, teaching there for six years. Twenty-six years ago John moved to Stevenson to become a mathematics instructor, softball coach, department chair and long-time fixture in the college counseling arena where for years he managed the Southern California and Northeast college tours. John earned a Master's degree from Wesleyan University. He was one of the first winners of the NcNeely chair, awarded by the graduating senior class to honor outstanding teachers at Stevenson.

Mary Kay Orosco, Co-coordinator of College Center

Mary Kay Orosco's involvement with Stevenson began in 1990 when the first of her three sons enrolled as a freshman. She was active in the Pirate Parent Club for the next 11 years, serving twice as its president and its representative on the Stevenson Board of Trustees. A graduate of U.C. Berkeley, she taught for eight years in the Mount Diablo and Clovis School districts and one year at Sacramento Country Day School. Mary Kay joined the College Center staff in 2001.

Rosemary Tintle, Co-coordinator of College Center

After 14 years as the Coordinator of Student Affairs and Summer Programs at Stevenson, Rosemary joined the team in the College Center in 2006 where, along with other duties, she took charge of organizing both college tours. This year you'll find her in the College Center office three days a week, sharing the job of Coordinator with Mary Kay Orosco. Rosemary lives in Pacific Grove with her husband, Bob, who works for the science department at Stevenson.
