Outdoor Program
Stevenson encourages participation by all students in our outdoor education program by providing opportunities in a variety of weekend trips, rock and gym climbing, mountaineering, kayaking, our extensive ropes course, the Sophomore Wilderness Expedition, and outdoor leadership.
At least once a month a group of students are taken backpacking, kayaking, climbing, or day hiking, taking advantage of our proximity to the Ventana Wilderness, the Monterey Bay, Joshua Tree and Pinnacles National Monument, Mt. Shasta, Mt. Rainier and the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The ropes course is used by coaches, classroom teachers, advisors, dormitories, community forum, and a number of different student groups and leadership teams. The Sophomore Wilderness Expedition also provides leadership opportunities for experienced seniors and juniors. The outdoor program is facilitated by a number of faculty members and coordinated by the Outdoor Education Director.
The Outdoor Education program also offers after-school courses in sea kayaking and rock climbing. It is an alternative to the classroom or the playing field, where our students are given the opportunity to grow as a whole person.
