Activities

When you go to a school with 520 students, half of which live right here on campus, it is not hard to believe that there is always something to do. At Stevenson activities are planned by student government and residence council, in conjunction with our activities director.

A Message from the Student Council

Hey all,

The 2008-2009 school year is underway and your new Student Body Officers wish everyone the best of luck in the months to come. Tevis Paxton, G Pepe and Animah Boakye will be filling in the shoes of Anne Marie Sintetos, Scott Munro and Emily Basham, as your new President, Vice-president, and Secretary/Treasurer. We’d like to take this time to give you a glimpse as to just what Stevenson Student Council is all about.

Stevenson Stu-co has always been what its name would have you to believe — a council for the students. We strive week after week to, in no particular order, organize dances, orchestrate class activities, arrange community service opportunities, and much more. Tevis, G, and Animah will be manning the helm of our great Stu-co ship this year and would like to express our excitement for all the activities the year has in store.

From an organizational standpoint the Stevenson Student Council is made up of five committees and three class officers from each grade.

The Activities Committee’s goal is to organize interesting and engaging activities for the students to take part in. Some examples of activities from years past are the Spring Fashion Show, or the Dive-In. This committee is headed by Miles Mercer and Robert Lu.

The Community Service Committee is in place to give students an opportunity for charity and other community service work, and is headed by Junbo Chen and Ingrid Tu.

Dance Committee is all about the dances. Finding locations, decorating, and making sure everyone has a good time are all major goals for this committee headed by Griffin Whitehead and Victor Atkins.

Publicity Committee is in charge of a range of duties such as advertising upcoming events and adding neat factoid sheets to the middle of the lunch tables. The head of Publicity is Robbie Chaparro.

But let’s not forget Progressive Committee, which can be a wildcard at times. The Progressive Committee’s range of activities and efforts stretches about as far as its members are willing. It’s sort of a fill-in-the-gaps committee and is under the command of Petersen Atwell this year. Fun Fact: Your President and Vice-president got their start on the Progressive committee.

All these committees join into place to form a great jigsaw puzzle that works with its dozens of members to provide the best year possible for the student body. Animah, G, and Tevis would once again like to thank those of you who put them in their positions. Tell all of the students to get ready for the best year ever!
