Dorm Life

Dorm life is at the heart of the residential experience. Here you'll meet other Stevenson Pirates from across the United States and around the world. Imagine what you can learn in a community of students with such varied backgrounds. Your teachers live right there with you and are there to help with homework and anything else you might need day or night.

In our dorms, we care about light, space, reasonable cleanness and in-room phone lines and wireless computer connections. We have five dormitories (Atwood, Wilson, Silverado, Day, and Casco/Douglas), all but the latter with a girls and boys wings.  Large common rooms connect the boys' and girls' wings so that social time is spent together with everyone enjoying surprise bagel breakfasts or pizza parties put on by the prefects.

The dorms also serve as a great place for you to develop and demonstrate your leadership qualities. Stevenson's Residence Council takes charge of planning the activities for each weekend and upperclassmen serve as prefects who help organize events in the dorms and help out when you have a question.

Prefects

Each year a group of senior and junior students are selected by the faculty to serve as prefects. They are charged with maintaining the health and harmony of the community by providing support and guidance to other students and working with the faculty to plan activities and maintain systems that allow Stevenson to run smoothly.

Prefects should be friends to whom other students may turn and upon whom they can rely. Each prefect works with the school-wide prefect body in planning and implementing school-wide events. Each residence hall has a head prefect - a senior prefect who oversees the smooth functioning of the residence hall. Residential prefects also select the school prefects from their body. The school prefects are charged with overseeing the residential prefect system and maintaining consistency among the residence halls. They also run Monday Night dinners. The Director of Residence runs the Residential and Day Prefect programs.
